过去的几十年内，中国大学为了跻身世界一流大学做出了巨大的努力。虽然愿望是美好的，努力是卓绝的，但是中国大学正面临着很多深层次的制度困境。要摆脱困境就需要我们深入思考大学的理念是什么和如何通过可行的制度机制实现既定的目标等一系列本源性的问题。
本篇论文所要解决的问题就在于如何化解理想中的大学理念和现实中的制度困境之间的冲突。整体思路框架如下：首先，论文剖析了处于从计划经济向市场经济转型过程的社会大背景下，中国大学在行政和市场的双重压力下所面临的制度困境是什么；其次，论文深入大学精神的实质，解析大学精神缺失的原因，而这正是制度困境的根本原因所在；最后，论文以大学的文化之根为切入口指明解决大学制度困境的途径在于在文化自觉性原则的指导下融合东西文化，重建现代中国大学的文化之根。
这篇论文的目的在于把当代中国大学所面临的制度困境放在一个更为广阔的历史和文化的视野中寻找其根本性的原因所在，进而通过深入剖析大学精神、文化之根和制度困境之间的内在关联，指明当代中国大学摆脱制度困境的关键在于文化自新。
Recently many Chinese universities are making great efforts to catch up with first-class universities in the world. However, the Chinese university is perplexed with profound problems.
The current study addresses the conflicts between the idea of the university in principle and the institutional dilemma in reality. First, the paper illustrates the institutional dilemma of the Chinese university in the context of China in transition from a planned economy to a market economy. Second, the discussion attributes the institutional dilemma to the loss of the spirit of the university. Finally, the paper suggests that the problems of the institutional dilemma should be resolved by rebuilding the cultural roots under the principle of culture-awareness to pursue the complementariti-es between the traditional Chinese culture and the western culture.
The purpose of the present study is to find out the cause of the in-stitutional dilemma of the contemporary Chinese university by placing it into a broader historical and cultural context and to put forward potential solutions through contem-plating the interactions in between the spirit of the university, the cultur-al roots and the institu-tional reform.
